A sunny day and not too cold made for a nice ride to Brooklyn. I headed out to Red Hook then road about the city a little. Winter has just begun. I can’t wait until Spring.

Yes, December. Generally a foul word for motorcyclists in this area, but the weather has been mild in NYC and my foot is doing much better. My riding has pretty much been within the city (four out of 5 boroughs and a sliver of Jersey). I crossed the Hudson and checked out where Alexander Hamilton lost his duel with Aaron Burr. It’s right off the Lincoln Tunnel exit in Weehawkin.
The view of the city is great from Weehawkin.
Not only did Alexander Hamilton die of his wounds here in Weekawkin, his son died in a duel here a few years earlier.
I was watching Lawrence of Arabia and was curious about the bike he is riding in the beginning of the film.
I found out it’s a Brough Superior. In the movie there is a ‘JAP‘ logo on the engine. This stands for J.A.Prestwich, an engine company that made engines for many British motorcycles. Looking further into this matter I found some cool sites I’d like to share.
Some Brough links
If you like vintage bikes, this guys got a great blog.
And while looking for JAP engines I found these shots.
